Many firms want to attract the generation’s star performers, namely “mavericks.”  But their brightness often poses a challenge in the organizational culture, Dr. Mark Mone states.

Mavericks tend to upset the accepted norms and generate conflict with their peers and managers.  Dr. Mone believes that companies need to understand both the benefits and the risks of working with mavericks.

Beth Pritchard, the North American Advisor to Alshaya, shares her advice for women aspiring to reach senior leadership positions.  The Center for the Study of the Workplace believes that her advices can be expanded to both genders.

First, Ms. Pritchard recommends that one should pursue a role where you can make a difference instead of settling for something less inspiring.  Second, women and men need to achieve a work-life balance but at the same time develop the ability to multitask.
