Marcel Legrand, Co-Founding Member of Monster Worldwide, discusses three technological impacts for the workforce in the next 1-2 years including mobility, social media and big data. With the emergence of smart phones and tablets,  employees are much more accessible and flexible, yet less than 2% of companies are completely mobile compliant in the way they address their customers. Social media is having a massive impact on business because companies no longer control their brands. Brands are now in the hands of consumers. And lastly, big data and analytics are changing business decision-making processes and privacy concerns.

Technological advancement is also affecting the recruitment of talent. Companies need to find a way to utilize the mobile platform in their recruitment efforts.

Utilizing technology in talent recruitment is essential. Ten years ago, when employers had hiring needs, they would probably put an ad in the local newspaper, visit a career fair or perhaps ask for employee referrals. Then, they would simply wait around, hoping for applications to come in. Today, this reactive approach is no longer sufficient. Talent recruitment has drastically changed with technological advancements such as internet job boards, social and professional networking, virtual technologies and more.

Rachel Cobb, Recruitment Director for Red Frog Events, discusses Red Frog’s unique approach to talent recruitment including a mix of technology and face-to-face interaction. Red Frog uses social media, the internet and talent management software in recruiting, but there is nothing that replaces personal interaction.

Rachel spoke at the September 2012 Talent Conference hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education. Click here for 2013 conference information. To learn more about our Human Resources programming, visit www.sce-hr.uwm.edu.
